how can Bob create a Hedera account for Carole

Previously, Alice created an account for Bob.

Now Bob wants to create an account for Carole.

Here's what Bob needs to do:

In his hedera wallet:

  1. choose menu ACCOUNTS > Default Account
  2. copy the public key (tap the copy icon)
  3. choose menu ACTIVITY > Create Account
  4. paste the public key from step 2
  5. enter an amount to open the account with, at least 2 hbar. Optionally enter a memo.
  6. hit 'Pay'. The transaction will be sent to the network and a new account created within seconds.
  7. A message should appear "Account created successfully" along with the new account ID. Make a note of the new account ID
  8. choose menu ACCOUNTS > Default Account, and change the account  ID to the new one obtained in the previous step then hit Close
  9. hit refresh to verify the balance of the new account
You may also check the transaction at https://app.dragonglass.me/hedera/accounts/0.0.XXXXX where XXXXX is the account number (use either the sender or recipient account number, the transaction should show equally on both sides)
  10. (optional) make a small payment to verify access to the account (eg to Alice who set you up with an account)

The following steps should be done with a new wallet *, so either any device that does not yet have the wallet app, or uninstall the wallet from your device (make sure you have your recovery phrase stored safely)
  11. menu SECURITY > Update key, then Accept
  12. a new recovery phrase is shown, copy and store this safely and securely
  13. enter the account number where asked, then hit 'Confirm'
  14. the request is sent to hedera and a confirmation message is shown once completed

* 22 Oct 2019 it seems to be possible to do this without uninstalling your wallet, a (false) error message will be given but I found the update is completed successfully, so if you do this make sure you save the recovery phrase anyway. You can then use it to restore a wallet with that account number, eg give these details to Carole and she should then be able to restore that account to her new wallet, then follow these steps to change the recovery details.

How to handover a Hedera account from Alice to Bob

Alice has one step: give Bob the recovery phrase and associated account number

Bob's steps:

  1. install hedera wallet on device, select "Recover wallet" and enter details provided by Alice
  2. verify access to the account by sending a small amount of hbar, eg 0.1hbar to Alice
check the transaction at https://app.dragonglass.me/hedera/accounts/0.0.XXXXX where XXXXX is the account number (use either the sender or recipient account number, the transaction should show equally on both sides)
  3. select app menu SECURITY > Update Key, then Accept
  4. a new recovery phrase is shown, copy and store this safely and securely
  5. enter the account number where asked, then hit 'Confirm'
  6. the request is sent to hedera and a confirmation message is shown once completed

This concludes the account handover. Alice no longer has access to the account, and Bob can recover it if needed using the recovery phrase from step 4. Note that anyone who steals the recovery phrase and account number effectively steals the account, so take precautions to protect this info, and ideally do not store these two items together.

Next step: Bob can now create an account for Carole, then Carole for Dave, Dave for Emily, Emily for Frank, Frank for Georgia, and so it goes on....

Small wave generator

I live in Southbourne in the south of the UK.

Swimming or kite-surfing at sea I can't help notice the power of the waves.

Along the beach are a series of groynes to stop the sand drifting. Sometimes the waves catch the posts of these groynes and send a geyser of water into the air.

I'm wondering how a simple device clamped onto the groynes might be able to harness this power.

The groynes consist of sturdy vertical posts about 1 foot square in profile, sunk deep into the ground, to which a 4inch thick wooden wall is afixed.

A limpet device seems like the simplest method.

The can-do attitude of kiteman in his blog has spurred me on to plan a simple test, as have some of the great comments and feedback to his idea.

Starting very simply, I'm wondering would a simple box do the trick? If so what would the ideal parameters be? height of front and back of the box, depth of box?

Or would the box need a horizontal run-in flap (fixed, or moving? angle? length? shape?)

Construction: likely a ply box frame, with vertical plastic pipe

Installation: heavy-duty clamps to secure the box at the required height

Testing: probably in light wave conditions (say 30cm wave height)

Measurement: a simple whistle at the air outlet, the sound volume giving an approximate measure of the air flow (or water spray coming through!)

Later enhancements
- shape and size adjustments
- one-way air inlet valve (or wells tubine) or dual turbine as per kiteman's blog
- float valve to stop water coming up pipe

Any suggestions welcome!

Thanks!

Edit 10 July 2019:
Following kiteman's example, i guess the inlet needs to be a funnel shape  horizontally:

How to add an external HD to your Onedrive sync

This is useful if you have files on an external hard disk that you want to backup online, but don’t want to clog up your laptop. Any changes you make on the hard disk or online will be synced whenever you plug in the external hard disk. This also works for any other location not in your Onedrive folder.

Step 1: decide where you want your files to appear in the Onedrive folder structure

Step 2: identify the location of the files on your external HD

Step 3: open the windows command prompt with administrator privileges:

  • Press Windows+R to open the “Run” box.
  • Type “cmd” into the box and then press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to run the command as an administrator.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
Step 4: type in the following command and the press Enter

mklink /d "C:\Users\User\OneDrive\1TBHD\unsorted" "E:\unsorted"

Note: the bold text is from steps 1 & 2.

If successful the following message will appear:

symbolic link created for C:\Users\User\OneDrive\1TBHD\unsorted <<===>> E:\unsorted

There is the option to have a different folder name on Onedrive, but in this example they are the same.

If the folder already exists in Onedrive you will receive an error:
“Cannot create a file when that file already exists.”

Technology & Harmony

A wetsuit is a great piece of technology. It's made of neoprene and designed to act as another layer of skin and keep you warm in the water.

Put a wetsuit on for the first time and it feels strange - foreign - because it is foreign - it's not you.

But you get used to it, and putting it on feels more natural. It becomes part of you and you stop noticing it.

Technology that works seems to disappear from our awareness. We don't notice when things work quietly. But when they go wrong we're suddenly reminded of their presence.

What's wrong?

A slither of cold slices at my ankle - the cold ocean stabs through a hole in the wetsuit.

What if nothing went 'wrong', if we floated forever in an amniotic fluid. I suppose we sometimes try to do that. Numb the senses - alcohol, sofas, melt into another.

hoo laa laa be doo daa daa.

The point. Not piercing the many layers so well ignored.

The dart hits the pub floor. Bob bends to pick it up, his crack at the bulls eye sends his crack to the sky.

He pulls it out the floor then takes another swig of his pint.

A pint glass is a pretty harmonious piece of technology.

Ignored, it serves Bob another gulp.

Pre-bionic era

We live in a pre-bionic era. Except a few people with really hig tech prosthetics, we are detached from the technology that we're consuming. But like food in the stomach, we're digesting and assimilating it.

Change. Such a dull buzzword. Yet the one change that seems unheard of is the one even the hippy lentil eaters recoil from. Kniuhiuuhi

Bodily change, and specifically elective bodily change. New generations will see us as old fogies in this capacity. Oh it's so dated to stay in the pre-bionic era. We'll become like pets, if we're lucky.

If you're already spending a significant amount of time interfacing with technology, it's natural to want to improve the interface, which is currently supremely clunky.

I'm typing this on an ipad...a massive step backwards from the keyboard, an already clunky interface. But it's been accepted by the new generation. Bihbkhbjk

Latest trainers, latest fingers, latest us. It won't happen overnight, but it'll happen. And the birthing pains are felt already.

Disability

Will disappear.

Enhanced ability.

No more simulating the lost and useless body we had.
